Lännen Tractors strengthens its core business by outsourcing surface treatment operations in Loimaa to Lainisalo Defence Painting Oy

Subsidiary of Summa Defence Oyj, Lännen Tractors Oy and Lainisalo Defence Painting Oy, have signed an agreement under which Lännen Tractors’ surface treatment operations in Loimaa will be transferred to Lainisalo Defence Painting Oy. As part of the arrangement, Lainisalo Defence Painting Oy will acquire the paint shop including its equipment, and a total of five employees from the Loimaa surface treatment operations will transfer to the company as existing employees.

The outsourcing supports Lännen Tractors Oy’s strategic focus on the manufacturing and assembly of multi-purpose machines and enables controlled growth of production volumes. At the same time, surface treatment is transferred to a partner with long and well-established experience in demanding defence and government customers, strict quality requirements, and high delivery reliability.

Through the arrangement, Lännen Tractors Oy gains access not only to the Loimaa unit but also to the entire six-site network of the Lainisalo Group, two of which are located in Estonia. The network provides significant capacity and delivery flexibility and improves the predictability and quality of surface treatment across the supply chain.

The arrangement also supports the growth strategy of the Summa Defence Oyj Group and strengthens Lännen Tractors Oy’s ability to respond to growing demand in the defence sector quickly, reliably, and in accordance with high quality standards.

“The arrangement supports our focus on our core business and improves our delivery capability as volumes grow. Lainisalo Defence Painting Oy’s strong and long-standing experience with demanding defence customers, certified processes, and delivery reliability is a clear strategic advantage for us,” says Veli Ollila, CEO of Lännen Tractors Oy.

Uudenkaupungin Työvene signed contract with German Navy for SWATH personnel transfer vessel

Uudenkaupungin Työvene Oy, Summa Defence Plc group company has signed a contract with the German Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) for the design and construction of a SWATH-based Personnel Transfer Vessel (PTV) intended to support German Navy operations in the Baltic Sea.

The vessel will be based in Neustadt in Holstein, where it will play a key role in transferring personnel from the naval harbor to larger naval vessels operating offshore. Designed to accommodate up to 60 personnel, the vessel will enable safe and efficient personnel transport and ship-to-ship transfer operations at sea.

The new vessel will utilize Small Waterplane Area Twin Hull (SWATH) technology, which offers exceptional stability and seakeeping performance compared to conventional hull forms. This provides a highly stable platform for personnel transfer operations, improving safety and operational efficiency even in challenging sea conditions typical of the Baltic Sea.

A specialized access and transfer system will allow personnel and crew members to safely embark and disembark between the transfer vessel and larger naval ships while underway or at sea.

“This project highlights our ability to deliver highly specialized vessels tailored to demanding operational requirements,” said Nils P. Olschner, Director Sales & Business Development at Työvene. “The SWATH platform provides an extremely stable working environment, making it ideally suited for personnel transfer missions. We are proud to support the operational capabilities of the German Navy.”

The vessel will be built at Työvene’s shipyard in Uusikaupunki, Finland, and is scheduled for delivery following completion of construction, testing, and sea trials still in 2026.

With this project, Työvene further strengthens its position as a supplier of high-performance aluminum workboats and specialized mission vessels for governmental and naval customers.
